WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CLEAN BURNING? Clean burning to Backwater means our candles are made free of paraffin wax. Most candles on the market today use paraffin wax for its inexpensive cost and strong ability to scent a room, however, it has large implications for our health. Paraffin is a petroleum by-product that when burned, releases toxic chemicals - two of which are carcinogens - and soot fumes into the air. While this is harmful to anyone, it should be of particular concern for those suffering respiratory issues, allergies, and young children with developing lungs. We love soy wax because it is a vegetable by-product, made from the oil of soybean and making it a renewable resource. It will burn clean without producing soot and harmful carcinogens, and burn cooler than paraffin wax which attributes to 30-50% longer burn time. We are thrilled to introduce our original line of Backwater candles made with essential oils. The original essential oil line encompasses clean burning to its potential and we are so pleased to offer this line to our customers.                  I AM HAVING TROUBLE LIGHTING MY WOOD WICK. Each wood wick is unique and can be tricky sometimes. When in doubt, TRIM THE WICK! Trim it by breaking off the ends when it is cool and this should help your wood wick catch the flame. When wood wicks burn, over time the ends become thin and ash. Break off these ash ends to allows the flame to catch on thicker wood.  CANDLE SAFETY TIPS Candles can be a serious fire hazard if not used properly. The following tips are to help minimize your risk when burning candles in your home. Do not leave candles burning unattended, this includes falling asleep or leaving the house Burn candles away from things that can catch fire (like bedding, curtains, decorations and clothing) Keep burning candles out of reach of children or pets Follow the burning instructions on the caution sticker on your candle Keep wood wick trimmed to 1/4 of an inch Burn candles in a well ventilated area
